The paper looks at the tendencies in the production of textbooks for German as a foreign language (L2) since the establishment of the so called communicative approach. Special attention is paid to the communicative-intercultural model and its implications for the construction of a modern textbook. The aim of the paper is primarily to provide a concrete tool for a more detailed analysis of textbooks from an intercultural aspect with a set of criteria. In order to ensure the applicability of the presented repertoire of criteria, an analysis of one current textbook from the environment was performed.
